Sometimes you feel like a nut....

That pretty much sums up how I feel this week.  I'm completely confused, bonkers, stressed, etc.  There has been a sudden rule change in the Ethiopian adoption world.  Yesterday it was announced that all families will now have to make two trips to Ethiopia.  The first trip will be at the court date and the second to pickup your child.  This is creating quite a lot of confusion and panic for those waiting.  The rule says any cases submitted to court prior to March 1 are exempt, but it never really says how "submitted to court" is defined.

As of now, we are in limbo just waiting to hear if we are going to have to fly to Ethiopia in the next few weeks.  Don't get me wrong.  It would be completely awesome to be able to see our sweet, baby boy.  However, we don't have our immunizations yet, and it would be an probably be almost $5,000 for the extra trip.  If we had only passed court last week, we would not have even had to worry about all of this.

As it stands now, we are still scheduled for court on the 17th, but we just don't know if that will happen or not.  We're REALLY hoping and praying that it will and that he will be ours that day.  If we end up having to travel for the court date, then I'm sure our court date will be rescheduled.

For the people who have not yet received their referrals, this is going to create quite a twist.  Some people chose Ethiopia because it was not a "two-trip" country.  There is a lot of questions as far as what happens if you go there on your scheduled date and you don't pass court that day?  Do you have to fly home, then fly back again for the rescheduled date?  Many questions yet to be answered.  Our agency doesn't even seem to know all the ramifications of this change.

We are hoping for the best and also hoping I don't go cuckoo by the time they get it all figured out!  :)

Hi. I just found your site as I'm up desperately searching for any other information. We've been delayed and delayed and now have a new court date for March 23rd. We know our case was submitted prior to March 1, but who knows if they will really honor that or not. Our lawyer is going to do his best, but...

My fear is that this means months and months more waiting while they get it all figured out.
