Thirteen months and two days

Since my post over a month ago, not much has changed in the adoption world. Referrals are still coming in at a snail's pace. In my last post, I had the table that showed the progress over the past several months for referrals. Here is an updated table that shows the tiny bit of progress that has been made since then:

Basically, since the last post, they have referred 10 more days. That is not much. Here is another little fact that was posted on the "Rumor Queen" site a few days before the latest batch:

When we hit September 1st last year they had referred through July 22nd. And as of right now they’ve referred through November 21st with us thinking this next batch may go through November 24th. That’s four months in one year. There is no way to put a positive spin on that. Sure, you could say at least they haven’t brought the program to a complete standstill, but that’s about all I can come up with.

Not very encouraging for someone with a LID of August 2, 2006, ay?

In other news, I have a new job. For several years, I have had a home daycare, but I recently realized that I could work less hours and earn more money by getting a job outside the home. As of August 21st, I am a Special Ed Aide at the Olympia West Elementary School in Minier. I help several students in the regular fifth grade classroom. So far, it has been a lot of fun and oftentimes challenging. I work 7:45 to 2:15 and will have the same days off that the kids do. I get to see my niece and nephew at school and a good friend of mine is also an aide there.

It has been a big adjustment going from being home all the time to not being home all the time. Garland has stepped up to the plate and is helping me with the housework. That has made the transition much easier. Oh...there is NO air conditioning in the school. UG!! It has been HORRIBLE. This morning, when I arrived at 7:45, our classroom thermometer said it was 87 degrees. By the time I left this afternoon, it was 92 in the room. Needless to say, I am really glad I have a pool and air conditioning at home!! When I get here, I crash for a while in the recliner, then head out to the pool.

Another adoption note, Garland and I are going to USCIS in Naperville on Friday to have our fingerprints redone. This will be the seventh time that I have been fingerprinted (four for the adoption, two for daycare, one for school). It doesn't make any sense that they expire or that there isn't a central database for fingerprints. Wouldn't you think more criminals would be caught if there was one big system that all entities could use? Duh!! Anyway, our fingerprints were only good for 18 months, so they have to be redone now. That's another $160 that we have to pay.

Is anyone still reading my blog? Just wondering if I am wasting time. Leave a comment if you are following along... pretty please? I know my MIL reads it, but I don't know about anyone else. I'm feelin' a little lonely here.

Julie and Garland,
Yes, keep the blog up and going - I read it often to see what's happening on the adoption. I'm sorry it is taking so long, but someday when you get your little Sadie it will be worth the wait. Your new job is great - I knew you would like being a teachers aide and be good at it. So nice that you can see Colby also at school. love - mary and jim s.

Julie,
I read it - checking faithfully about the 2nd each month - knowing that it should have an update. Please continue on!

Just wanted to comiserate with you. We are in Georgia and we have an LID of 8/29/06...so while we celebrate 1 year ..we are feeling like "just darn" we thought that our baby would be with us by now..
it helps to know that we aren't in this alone.

Remember me in Green Bay, Julie. I am still following your blog. We are LID 05/15/06 and I am getting older by the minute. Plus our daughters will be about 12 years apart in age.
